From: Jeff Padgett, Georgia
"I used to work at a water
treatment
plant and I saw what came in (pipes painted brown) and what went
out
(pipes painted blue to indicate freshness) and I don't drink anything
now but purified water." 8/29/05

L.A. BOASTS
OF WATER QUALITY,
BUYS BOTTLES
"Despite spending $1 million in the last two years to assure Los
Angeles
residents that their tap water is not only safe to drink but also
top
quality, city officials spent $88,900 in public money during that
time
on bottled water from private firms. The Department of Water and
Power,
which supplies the city's water and promotes it, spent the most
on
bottled water, paying $31,160." 1/4/06

STUDY; ARSENIC IN DRINKING WATER ACCELERATES TUMORS
A recent University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center study on
the effects of environmental arsenic has found that arsenic in
drinking water can stimulate the growth of cancerous tumors and
cause them to spread faster.
According to the Water Quality Association, the study indicates
that arsenic levels as low as 4 parts per billion (ppb) can stimulate
blood vessel growth, while levels as low as 10 ppb cause tumors
to expand.
Currently the federal arsenic standard for arsenic in drinking
water stands at 50 ppb, however, water systems nationwide are preparing
their systems to meet the new standard of 10 ppb set to go into
effect by 1.23.06, the WQA reported. 8-05
